What is Solar Wind?

The solar wind streams plasma and particles direct from sun out into area. Though the wind is constant, its properties arent. What causes this stream, and the way will it affect the earth ?

Windy star

The corona, the suns outer layer, reaches temperatures of up to 2 million degrees fahrenheit ( 1. 1 million celsius ). At this level, the suns gravity cant hold about the rapidly moving particles, and this streams from the the star.
The suns activity shifts within the course of its 11-year cycle, with sun spot numbers, radiation levels, and ejected material changing after a while. These alterations affect the properties of one's solar wind, as well as its magnetic field properties, velocity, temperature and density. The wind too differs based mostly on where by the sun it comes from and exactly how quickly that portion is rotating.
The velocity of one's solar wind is higher over coronal holes, reaching speeds of up to 500 miles ( 800 kilometers ) per second. The temperature and density over coronal holes are low, and of course the magnetic field is weak, therefore the field lines are open to house. These holes occur along at the poles and low latitudes, and reach their largest when activity by the sun is at its minimum. Temperatures within the whole fast wind will reach up to 1 million degrees f ( 800, 000 c ).
Along at the coronal streamer belt close to firmly the equator, the solar wind travels a lot of slowly, at around 200 miles ( three hundredunited nations monitors. The unarme km ) per second. Temperatures within the whole slow wind reach up to 2. 9 million f ( 1. 6 million c ).
